6 things to watch this week in area college, high school basketball

It’s a busy week of basketball for teams around the Miami Valley so we thought you might need a little help keeping up with the action.

Here are six things you might want to keep an eye on involving local high school and college teams.

Dayton at Richmond

The Flyers still haven’t won back-to-back games this season. Now they need to avoid losing two in a row for the second time on Tuesday at Richmond (7 p.m.).

Richmond (3-12, 1-2) might be just what the doctor ordered, but didn’t we think the same thing about UMass? You can watch the game on Facebook Live via the Atlantic 10’s page.

Wright State at Northern Kentucky

It’s a first-place showdown in the Horizon League on Thursday night at 7 as the Raiders and the Norse are the only two 4-0 teams through the first two weeks of the conference season.

Wright State is coming off an 86-81 overtime win at Oakland on Sunday .

The Raiders haven’t won three straight road games since 2013. Northern Kentucky swept all three games in the series a year ago, including bouncing Scott Nagy’s team in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League tournament.

Owens Tech at Sinclair (women)

The Lady Tartans (13-2) have had to wait a while to add to a 12-game winning streak, and it won’t come easy against Owens Tech (13-3) on Wednesday night (5:30).

Sinclair is averaging 85 points a game. Carroll grad Amanda Schroeder’s 27 points a game is second best in the country in the Division II JUCO ranks.

Flyin’ to the Hoop

Four days, 20 games, and 38 teams…welcome to the 16th year of one of the top showcases of high school basketball in the country.

Wayne’s wild weekend

The Warriors (10-0) will close out Flyin’ to the Hoop on Monday night against Dane Goodwin and Upper Arlington, but that won’t be the only test for Wayne’s unbeaten record.
