Texas Rangers designate UD grad Mike Hauschild for assignment

The Texas Rangers designated relief pitcher Mike Hauschild for assignment on Thursday. The University of Dayton and Beavercreek High School graduate made his big-league debut on April 8 and had an 11.25 ERA in eight innings and four appearances.

On Wednesday in a 9-1 loss to the Athletics in Oakland, Hauschild allowed five earned runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings. He gave up three home runs.

Hauschild makes debut

Dream comes true for Hauschild

Hauschild, who the Rangers took from the Astros in the Rule 5 draft, will now go through the waiver process. If no one claims him, the Rangers must offer him back to Astros for $50,000.

Second Thoughts: LeBron needs to get physical in quest for immortality

The Memorial Day forecast is looking good, so enjoy the holiday and pause to think about why you don’t have to go to work on Monday. I also suggest a trip to the meat counter at Dot’s Market. That is the recipe to a great cookout. I’m already sick of the LeBron vs. MJ debate. The NBA Finals haven’t even tipped off and that&rsquo...

West Michigan grand slam in 12th sinks Dragons

The Dayton Dragons aren’t concerned with being the best team in minor league baseball. They just want to be the best in the Midwest League. They had a chance to do both Friday night. Dayton opened a four-game series against the West Michigan Whitecaps at Fifth Third Field in an East Division showdown. It was a battle through 12 innings until...
H.S. Results for 5/26: Minster moves on in regional tourney

An early lead was all Minster baseball needed thanks to a dominant performance from Aaron Ernst in a Division IV regional semifinal on Friday. Ernst threw a complete game three-hitter and Minster moved on with a 6-1 win over New London. Minster will face Leipsic on Saturday at Patrick Henry with a bid to the state tournament on the line. Nothing worse than fifth, unless it’s a long jump win

Springfield junior Quincy Scott suffered the cruelest fate during Friday night’s Division I regional track and field finals at Welcome Stadium. Worse, he endured that twice. Scott placed fifth in the 100 meters in a clocking that had to be extended an extra digit (11.137) to separate him from fourth-place finisher Jordan Campbell of Lebanon (11...
Adleman gem leads Reds past Phillies
Adleman gem leads Reds past Phillies

Tim Adleman tossed eight innings of one-hit ball, Adam Duvall and Scott Schebler homered and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 on Friday night. Adleman (3-2) entered with a 6.19 ERA and hadn’t pitched more than seven innings in 19 career starts. But he looked like Greg Maddux against Philadelphia. Andres Blanco’s first-inning...
