Springfield moves football opener to Witt

Springfield High School’s home opening football game on Friday against visiting Dublin Coffman has been moved to Wittenberg University. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.

According to head football coach Maurice Douglass, the cite was changed because of in infestation of grubs and fungus on the grass playing surface at Evans Stadium, the Wildcats’ home stadium on campus.

A scrimmage this past Friday also was moved to Witt.

Springfield athletic director Mike Dellapina said work is being done to make the Evans Stadium turf eventually playable this season.
