Sixth rookie pitcher to start Friday for Reds

The Cincinnati Reds will promote right-handed pitcher Luis Castillo from Double-A Pensacola to start Friday on the road against the Washington Nationals. The Dominican Republic native will make his big-league debut.

The Reds acquired Castillo, 24, in the trade that sent Dan Straily to the Miami Marlins in January. Castillo was 4-4 with a 2.58 ERA in 14 starts with Pensacola. He has never pitched beyond the Double-A level.

Castillo will be the sixth rookie pitcher to start a game for the Reds this season and the 11th pitcher overall to start. Only two teams, the Mariners (12) and Mets (11), have used more starters.
