Report: Jameis Winston leaving Florida State for NFL

Update, 9:40 a.m. ET

According to ESPN, Jameis Winston is moving up his timeline for announcing his decision to today, and he will announce his intentions to leave Florida State for the NFL.

More to come on this developing story.

If Jameis Winston plans to leave Florida State for the NFL, as many expect, he's not ready to make that decision public just yet.

ESPN reports Winston's father said the star Seminoles quarterback, who won the 2013 Heisman Trophy, doesn't plan to announce his plans until after the national championship game on Monday. Winston must declare his intention to go pro by Jan. 15 to be eligible for the NFL Draft in May.

Winston threw for 348 yards in a 59-20 national semifinal loss to Oregon on Thursday, and afterward left open the possibility of returning to play baseball this spring and another football season in the fall.

Winston has had some high-profile off-field trouble, but draft analysts widely consider he and Oregon's Marcus Mariota to be the first two quarterbacks taken, should either leave school early.
