Report: Burfict fined $75,000 for Blount incident

According to ProFootball Talk’s Zac Jackson, Cincinnati Bengals Vontaze Burfict has been fined $75,000 for stepping on Patriots running back LaGarrette Blount late in Sunday’s 35-17 loss at New England.

According to Jackson, the letter the league sent Burfict informing him of the fine made it clear it was solely for his action against Blount and not the low hit to the back of the leg of New England tight end Martellus Bennett.

Earlier report, 10:17 a.m.

Will Vontaze Burfict be in uniform Sunday when the Bengals play the Browns?

Signs point to yes.

ESPN reported Wednesday morning the Bengals “are not expecting” Burfict to be suspended after a pair of videos showing questionable behavior during Cincinnati’s loss to New England surfaced.

ProFootballTalk.com noted suspensions are typically handed down on Monday or Tuesday afternoon at the latest, so the veteran linebacker would appear to be in the clear.

Burfict was suspended for the first three games of the season for an accumulation of unsafe and/or unsavory actions on the field, but the Bengals have appeared to stand by him throughout.

Franklin’s Kennard takes his best shot at NBA draft

There’s no telling when Luke Kennard, Franklin’s favorite son, will go in the NBA draft Thursday night. The only sure thing is the impact it’ll have on his family. “It’s unreal,” said Mark Kennard, Luke’s father, from New York earlier this week. “I’m sure if I hear his name called it’ll be...

Bullpen blows up as Reds fall to Rays; help may soon be on the way

Scott Schebler hit his 20th home run and drove in another run, but the Reds’ bullpen imploded Wednesday afternoon in an 8-3 loss to the Rays. Cincinnati has dropped 11 of 12, and is in danger of slipping out of the wildcard race before midseason. The Reds left Tampa Bay in bad shape, Billy Hamilton getting caught in a rundown and being tagged...
