Things to watch on Day 7 of Bengals training camp

The Cincinnati Bengals will be back on the practice field today after their first off day of training camp. Here are some things to keep an eye on at practice today:

Starters stocked: A.J. Green may not be ready to resume work, but Andre Smith back in the fold and Andrew Whitworth and Clint Boling expected to return from a few days off, the offense could be as close to stocked with all starters as we’ve seen.

Dre’s development: Dre Kirkpatrick, the 2012 first-round pick who missed most of his rookie season with injuries, continues to impress and could soon start pushing Terence Newman and/or Leon Hall for more first-team reps.

Special snaps: The Bengals have numerous options in both the kick and punt return areas, but we should start to get a better indication of which way special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons wants to go as we get closer to the first preseason game.

How the Ohio State offense is getting its swagger back

We’ve reached the point in the football preseason that themes can start to run into the ground.  “How will X be better than it was last year, coach?” is a well-worn question in July and August.  Whatever went wrong a season ago is inevitably a central theme to the following preseason.  Such as it is with an Ohio State...

The Greeneview Rams have had much to cheer about the past three seasons by earning the program’s first playoff appearance and first postseason victory. Regarding the ‘Urban Meyer is overrated/underrated’ at Ohio State thing

This “Urban Meyer has underachieved at Ohio State thing” is a stupid, made-up story, but people love to click those so it's probably worth a few minutes.  I would say he's overachieved twice, underachieved twice and hit expectations pretty much on the head once in five seasons in which he is 61-6 with one national championship, one...

Relive the Reds’ nine-run second inning against Cubs

The Reds broke out the bats against Cubs starter Jon Lester. Cincinnati put up nine runs on Lester in the second inning. It was the most they’ve scored in a frame since scoring 10 in the sixth inning of a 12-5 win over the Tigers on Aug. 24, 2015. From Joey Votto’s homer to Phillip Ervin’s broken bat single to Jose Peraza’s...
