One historic team ousts another at LLWS

Philadelphia pitcher Mo'ne Davis, who became a viral sensation after pitching a two-hit shutout in her first outing at the Little League World Series, was one of two ratings gems for the tournament this season.

The other team is the all-black team from Chicago, Jackie Robinson West, which advanced to the U.S. Championship game after beating Philadelphia Thursday.

The Chicago team is in the midst of its first tournament appearance in 31 years, and its journey continues Saturday against Las Vegas. The two teams previously played earlier in the tournament, and the result was a blowout in favor of Las Vegas.

"It woke us up," Robinson West's coach, Darold Butler, told the AP of the first meeting between the teams.

Vegas also beat Philadelphia 8-1. Davis, who pitched 2 1/3 innings before leaving after 55 pitches in that game, did not pitch against Chicago. Instead, she spent some time at first base before coming out of the game then being inserted again later, at third.

Besides being one of a very few girls who have made it to Wiliamsport, Pa., Davis is now the first Little League player to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated.

The honor came as the league celebrates its 75th year.
