Ohio State’s Tyquan Lewis earns top Big Ten honor

Junior naned top defensive lineman in conference

The Big Ten named Ohio State Buckeyes junior defensive end Tyquan Lewis the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year on Tuesday. The junior has 7½ sacks. Lewis follows former teammate Joey Bosa, who won the award in 2014 and 2015.

Punter Cameron Johnston won the Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year Award. He ranks fifth in the nation with a 46.2 yard punting average.

Along with Lewis, three Buckeyes earned All-Big Ten first team honors: safety Malik Hooker; cornerback Marshon Lattimore; and linebacker Raekwon McMillan. Cornerback Gareon Conley made the second team.

Kicker Tyler Durbin and return specialist Parris Campbell made the third team. Six players earned honorable mentions: linebacker Jerome Baker; defensive tackle Michael Hill, defensive ends Jalyn Holmes and Sam Hubbard; cornerback Denzel Ward; and safety Damon Webb.

Linebacker Joe Burger was Ohio State’s Big Ten sportsmanship award honoree.

The Big Ten will announce its offensive awards on Wednesday.
