Northmont’s Catalyst to sing national anthem at Dragons opener

The Northmont High School A Capella singing group Catalyst has been selected to perform the national anthem for the Dayton Dragons season opener.

The Dragons’ minor-league baseball season starts at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at Dayton’s Fifth Third Field against the Lake County Captains. This will be the 18th season for the Cincinnati Reds’ affiliate and Midwest League Eastern Division team.

Catalyst was chosen for the opener over more than 200 other soloists or groups who auditioned. The Dragons historically have picked local talent at all levels to sing The Star-Spangled Banner before every home game.

“When the kids found out that they had won they were shocked,” said Anna King, a Catalyst co-director, in a release. “They were hoping to sing at a game this season, but had no idea that Opening Day would be a possibility.”
