Mixon says tweet from Steelers’ Bell led to changes

One month ago today Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell fired off a couple of tweets at Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon, chiding the rookie for copying his first-down celebration and game-day accessories.

Mixon responded at the time by saying it was unfortunate Bell felt that way but that he wasn’t worried about him.

But Mixon admitted Wednesday that he stopped emulating Bell’s first down celebration because of the tweet.

“I looked up to him,” he said. “I wasn’t tripping. If he doesn’t want me doing it, then I ain’t going to do it.”

He also hasn’t worn the sleeve since Bell tweeted about it.

The conversation between the two began with Mixon’s comments following the 29-14 loss at Pittsburgh on Oct. 22, when he said he could do “way more” than Bell if given the opportunity to run the ball more.

Mixon was frustrated after getting just seven carries despite rushing for 48 yards in the loss.

With the rematch looming Monday night, Mixon was asked if he planned to approach Bell on the field to clear the air.

“I’m going out there to win the football game,” Mixon said. “I’m not going out there to figure out what another man is thinking.”
