McCarron knows his days with Bengals might be over

Whether it was intentional or a slip, AJ McCarron repeatedly spoke in the past tense Monday while talking with reporters on his way out of Paul Brown Stadium for what could be the final time.

“I appreciate everybody in this organization from the bottom of my heart,” McCarron said. “They gave me a chance when a lot people wouldn’t. They’ve all treated me unbelievably. I really do care for every one of them and respect all of them. This place will always have a special place in my heart for just what they’ve done for me. I really appreciate it.”

He is signed through the 2017 season, but with Andy Dalton entrenched as the starter and McCarron’s trade value only expected to increase as the draft approaches, there’s a good chance another team will make an offer the Bengals have to take.

“You’re always going to think about it,” McCarron said. “I’d be lying who ever told you I wouldn’t. The coaches know, Marvin (Lewis) knows how big of a competitor I am. I want a chance to play.”
