Local Paralympian will be honored, sign autographs at WSU game

Wright State will honor local Paralympian gold medalist Grace Norman at the Nutter Center on Friday prior to the 7:30 p.m. men’s basketball game against Valparaiso.

A Xenia Christian graduate and freshman at Cedarville University, Norman won the gold medal in the triathalon at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janiero. She also won bronze in the 400-meter race.

She will be available for photos and autographs on the concourse at halftime.

Norman was born without a left foot or a big toe on her right foot due to a congenital amniotic band disorder.

According to a press release announcing her appearance, “Wright State has long been in the forefront of disability services in higher education. In 1970 the school was one of the first to create an Office of Disability Services – three years before Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act required any university receiving federal money to make its programs accessible to persons with disabilities, and 20 years before the Americans with Disabilities Act. Today, Wright State’s campus is one of the most accessible in the country.”
