Lewis says bye week will serve Pacman, others well

Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said in his postgame press conference Sunday that given the roll the team is on, he’d rather play this weekend than have a bye.

But he conceded the off week probably is for the best given the number of injuries the Bengals sustained in the 20-16 win against Buffalo, including the ones that forced starting cornerbacks Dre Kirkpatrick (shoulder) and Adam Jones (back) out of the game in the first half.

Wide receiver Tyler Boyd left with a knee injury, while quarterback Andy Dalton (ankle) and safety Shawn Williams (elbow) and George Iloka (leg) suffered injuries but finished the game.

“I think the bye week will do well for us,” Lewis said. “We’ve got some guys that are going to be sore the next couple of days.”

Lewis described Jones’ back injury as “more than spasms” but said it was not serious.

“It’s nothing that he needs any kind of medical intervention on,” Lewis said. “He just needs some time.”
