Hubbard’s carrer-high 32 points powers streaking Miamisburg at Flyin’

Like many players throughout the area, Jason Hubbard and his Miamisburg teammates had often visited the Premier Health Flyin’ to the Hoop. They would be there again this season, as rare Vikings participants.

“Over the summer we worked really hard for this moment,” said Hubbard, who was key in a 65-54 defeat of Mountain Mission (Va.) on to start Sunday’s Flyin’ games at Fairmont’s Trent Arena. “To be here and get the ‘W’ just shows how much we’ve worked.”

A 6-foot-5 senior, Hubbard delivered a career-high 32 points to go with nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals and several crowd-pleasing dunks. He also bottomed four 3-pointers. He signed with Taylor (Ind.) University.

Corey Hartman added 14 points for Miamisburg (8-3), which won its fourth straight contest.

Mountain Mission is a prep academy with an international lineup. Guard Ian Lee led Mission with 17 points. Daniil Kasatkin, a 6-7 center who signed with Penn State, added 11 points and four rebounds.

“They were really scary on paper with the size and international players they have,” Miamisburg coach Tim Fries said. We felt we’re going to make them play a Southwest Ohio high school basketball game. There’s ice and snow outside and we’re going to play tough, hard defense. We call that a GWOC game.”

Miamisburg hosts Bellbrook on Tuesday.
