UD honors heart transplant recipient during Davidson game

Pat McEntee received new heart in August

The University of Dayton honored a 2002 graduate, Pat McEntee, during a timeout in the first half of a game against Davidson on Tuesday at UD Arena.

McEntee was diagnosed with heart disease in 1996. He had a LVAD (left ventricular assist device) implanted and spent 1,068 days on the organ transplant waiting list. He received a new heart on Aug. 13 at the Cleveland Clinic and walked one mile a week later.

“God found the right heart for me and at the right time,” McEntee wrote on the Life Connection of Ohio website. “For nearly the last three years, I’ve been patiently waiting. I said over and over that I kept meeting people who were sicker than I was and that needed those hearts that came along more than I did at the time. My line always was ‘when I need it most, my time will come.’”
