But Erin Mangen came out swinging, hitting a grand slam to push Northmont over Springfield, 8-5.
Both Mangen and teammate Ryanne Stoffel contributed a double in the Northmont victory.
Marissa Bardonaro was the winning pitcher for Northmont, improving to 4-0 on the season.
The win moved Northmont to 9-2, Springfield fell to 2-9.

Indian Lake 5, Springfield 1: Alex Jacobs was the winning pitcher for Indian Lake with eight strikeouts and Dylan Albright had two hits.
Tri County North 13, Ansonia 4: Bo Hendrickson struck out seven and earned the win for Tri County North. Chandler Sproles went 1-for-4 with three RBIs and Casey Whipp went 2-for-2 with one run.
Mississinawa Valley 11, Jackson Center 4: Johns went 4-for-5 while Collins went 1-for-2 for Mississinawa Valley in their win. Shimp, Dirksen and Guillozet each went 1-for-4 and Longfellow went 1-for-5.
Tippecanoe 11, West Carrollton 2: Brad Calhoun was the winning pitcher for Tippecanoe with six strikeouts. Justin Eichbaum went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Trevor Staggs went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in the Tippecanoe victory.
Lebanon 5, Centerville 4: Joey Hecht threw five shutout innings for Centerville and Tyler Rahe had an RBI. Lebanon won in the 10th inning on a leadoff walk and scored on a sacrifice fly by AJ Frittz.
New Bremen 3, Fort Loramie 2: J. Tenkman was the winning pitcher for New Bremen. T. Overman, L. Vonderhaar and G. Selby scored for New Bremen. Albers and Wehrman scored for Fort Loramie.
Softball
Miamisburg 10, Fairmont 3: Aubrey Azbill was the winning pitcher for Miamisburg with nine strikeouts. Kenzie Frantz went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a homerun. Tori Faulkner had two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored.
New Bremen 16, Fort Loramie 2: S. Fox was the winning pitcher for New Bremen with eleven strikeouts. A. Theiman went 5-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs for New Bremen. M. Koppin and M. Holscher had the runs for Fort Loramie.
Tri-Village 12, Twin Valley 2: Taylor Bowles was the winning pitcher for Tri-Village with one strikeout. Trisa Porter went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, while Shelby Frech went 1-for-3 with one run and three RBIs.
Boys Tennis
Bellbrook 4, Valley View 1: Braden Kopp, Zach Shiltz, Andrew Haberlandt (singles) and Cole McCrae/Andy Russell won their sets to win the match for Bellbrook. The doubles team of Ben Holbrook/Ben Lewan had the lone win for Valley View.
Greenville 4, Xenia 1: Noah Haupt, Craig Manges, Branson Leigeber (singles) and Austin Grote/Josh Smith (doubles) all won their sets for Greenville. Spencer Titus/Aaron Harrison (doubles) had the lone win for Xenia.
Waynesville 5, Monroe 0: Ben Muth, Daniel Papenak, David Muth (singles), Ryan Teeters/Seth Sturgill and James Schneider/Jason Bone (doubles) all won their sets to sweep Monroe.
