Gentry’s big game lifts Wright State to eighth straight win

Cole Gentry scored a career-high 23 points Thursday night as Wright State jumped on Green Bay early and never trailed on the way to an eighth consecutive victory.

Gentry was 5 of 5 from 3-point range and 9 of 11 overall to lead five Raiders in double figures as they coasted to an 80-67 victory at the Resch Center.

The win keeps Wright State (15-5) in first place in the Horizon League at 7-0, extending the best start in conference play in program history.

Freshman center Loudon Love added 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season and fourth in the last five games.

Wright State led by as many as 23 points before Green Bay (8-14, 3-6 HL) closed within single digits in the final two minutes.

Freshman Everett Winchester scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds, while junior Mark Hughes had 13 and freshman Jaylon Hall contributed 10.

The Raiders hit a season-high 11 3-pointers on 21 attempts and were 30 of 60 overall.

They held the Phoenix to 23 of 64 shooting, with half of those attempts coming from beyond the arc (8 of 32).

WSU returns to action at 8 p.m. Saturday night at Milwaukee.

Northern Kentucky thumped the Panthers 91-64 Thursday night to stay one game behind the Raiders.
