Franklin Monroe falls in Flyin’ debut despite Conley’s 35 points

It’s not often that Franklin Monroe draws a Midwest Athletic Conference power in boys basketball. That’s what made Monday’s matchup with Minster extra special.

“The MAC is a really good conference,” Jets junior standout Ethan Conley said. “It’s always a good challenge for us playing teams from the MAC. We’ll just have to get better each and every day.”

A 6-foot-3 center, Conley did his part, converting 12 of 13 free throws and scoring a career-high 35 points. But it was Minster that won, 74-58, in the final day of the 16th annual Premier Health Flyin’ to the Hoop at Fairmont’s Trent Arena.

Franklin Monroe (9-5, 5-1) also lost 60-43 to visiting Versailles on Jan. 6. The Jets are in second place in the Cross County Conference behind Bethel (11-2, 7-0). Bethel defeated Franklin Monroe 66-58 on Dec. 15.

It was the Flyin’ debut for both teams.
