Reports: Charles Manson, mass murderer, has died

Packers WR Jordy Nelson defends team medical staff on Twitter

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson took to social media to defend the team’s medical staff after New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett went on the attack Friday.

The Packers waived Bennett on Wednesday using the “Failure to Disclose Physical Condition,” designation. On Friday, Bennett used his Instagram story to say that Packers team doctor, Patrick McKenzie, pushed him to play with an injured shoulder instead of receiving necessary surgery. Nelson tweeted out that McKenzie is extremely cautious about when he lets players who have been injured back onto the field.

Nelson has a great deal of experience with the Packers’ medical staff. He’s been with the team for 10 years, and went through rehab for an ACL injury with them from 2015-16.

Several Packers players both current and former have come forward and also said that the team medical staff is extremely cautious when it comes to allowing players on the field after injury. Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette relayed a quote from last week in which guard Jahri Evans said the Packers are much less aggressive with putting injured players on the field than his former team, the New Orleans Saints.

Jahri Evans last week on how #Packers medical staff handles players recovering from injuries: "They’re not really aggressive as far as sending guys back out there there."

That doesn’t mean that Bennett is wrong. McKenzie could’ve exercised the utmost caution with every other player he has examined and still not have done right by Bennett.

However, it is unfortunate that a relationship between player and team that began with so much promise has ended with serious accusations hurled by both sides.
