An undrafted free agent from Wisconsin, Erickson only had six catches for 71 yards a season ago. He did, however, post an average of 27.9 yards on his kickoff returns.
But now Erickson’s on the bubble, and it might take more than kick returns to save him. He’s done well thus far, with his most important play a 31-yard catch just before half that allowed the Bengals to add a field goal against Kansas City.
Erickson could earn a larger role, and if he does, it just adds another weapon to Andy Dalton’s arsenal. The team already boasts A.J. Green, John Ross and Tyler Eifert, among others, as options in the passing game.
Before worrying with that, though, Erickson has to prove he belongs on the roster.
