Dayton men, women off to strong starts in A-10 play

The University of Dayton men's and women's basketball teams are 6-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Dayton is one of nine schools in the country with both its teams in first place.

The Dayton men (15-4) have won three straight games and sit alone in first place after a 67-46 victory over Saint Louis on Sunday at UD Arena.

The Dayton women (12-7) beat St. Joseph’s 64-59 in overtime Saturday at UD Arena. They have won nine of their last 10 games and share first place with George Washington, a team they beat 50-48 on Jan. 8 at UD Arena.

Here's the list of other schools with both teams in first place: Florida State (ACC); Florida Gulf Coast (Atlantic Sun); Maryland (Big Ten); Middle Tennessee (Conference USA); Belmont (Ohio Valley); Bucknell (Patriot); Gonzaga (West Coast); and New Mexico State (Western Athletic).

The Dayton men have 11 conference games remaining, starting with a 9 p.m. game at VCU on Friday. The Dayton women play nine more A-10 games. Their next game is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at George Mason.
