Dayton Flyers recruit wins top honor in Minneapolis

McKinley Wright averaging 22.9 points as a senior

The Minneapolis Star Tribune named Dayton Flyers recruit McKinley Wright its 2017 Metro Player of the Year on Monday.

Wright, one of five freshmen in Dayton’s 2017 recruiting class, has averaged 22.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game as a senior at Champlin Park High School (Minn.).

Champlin Park (29-0) plays Chaska (24-5) in the Class AAAA state quarterfinals at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

Dayton’s other 2017 recruits are: Jordan Davis, a 6-4 guard from Irmo, S.C.; Jordan Pierce, a 7-0 center from Scotch Plains, N.J; Nahziah Carter, a 6-6 forward from Rochester, N.Y.; and Matej Svoboda, a 6-7 forward from the Czech Republic. All the players have signed except for Svoboda, who’s expected to sign in the April signing period.
