Clark County crowned its Miss Basketball on Tuesday night. Now its the boys turn.
The 37th annual Coaches All-Clark County boys basketball team will be announced Thursday night at Wittenberg University’s Shouvlin Center. One of the 10 players on the All-County team will walk away with the Dan Hoyt Mr. Basketball award, adding his name to a list that includes Fred Carson (1979, North), Jason Gee (1984, South), Troy McCracken (1986, Greenon), Jason Collier (1996, Central), Isiah Carson (2004, South) and last year’s winner, Jaelin Williams of Shawnee.
Tecumseh’s Rick Thacker was the first Mr. Basketball in 1978.
The award is voted on by the county boys basketball coaches and, according to organizers, goes beyond the states. Leadership, classroom achievement, community leadership and respect of coaches and competitiors are also taken into consideration.
To date, 43 Clark County basketball players have won the award with co-winners in seven years.
South has a county-high eight Mr. Basketball winners and is followed by North and Shawnee with six each, Catholic Central and Tecumseh with five, Greenon and Southeastern with four, Kenton Ridge with three and Northeastern and Northwestern with one.
