Love ran for 1,973 yards this season, second-most in FBS, with 17 touchdowns, topping the 100-yard mark in 11 of 12 games he played. Love had 12 rushes of 50-plus yards this season, most by any player. He needs another 47 yards to break Christian McCaffrey’s school record set in 2015.

Love was accompanied at the Home Depot Awards by Stanford coach David Shaw and two members of his offensive line, senior center Jesse Burkett and senior tackle David Bright.

“I’d do anything for those boys,” Love said on ESPN. “I’m just honored to be a representative for them.”

Love, who is also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy that will be awarded Saturday night in New York City, is the second Stanford player to win the Doak Walker Award along with Toby Gerhart in 2009.
