Notre Dame football picked as ‘team to watch’ by Yahoo Sports’ Pat Forde

The Notre Dame football team enters its bye week having already surpassed its win total from last season, and having generated significant hype in the process.

In a list of midseason superlatives compiled by the Yahoo Sports college football writers, columnist Pat Forde called the Fighting Irish his team to watch for the second half of the season.

Forde points out that Notre Dame’s loss was by a single point to a Georgia team that has won its first three SEC games by a combined 100 points. Meanwhile, in their other five games, the Irish have dominated.

Forde writes that Notre Dame’s second half schedule will be brutal, as DieHards pointed out Wednesday, but he says if the Irish can find a way to win out, they will likely put themselves in position to make the College Football Playoff.

“Running game is powerful, defense is improved,” Forde writes. “Some big opportunities in the second half of the season: USC Oct. 21, N.C. State Oct. 28, Miami Nov. 11, Navy Nov. 18, Stanford Nov. 25.

“Get through that gauntlet without a loss and the Irish are in the playoff.”

Oklahoma looks to keep post-Red River high going

Logic would dictate Oklahoma might let up in the games following a heated rivalry against Texas. That hasn’t been the case. Since 1999, the Sooners are 17-1 after the Red River Showdown. Of course, 1999 was Bob Stoops’ first year as the Sooners’ coach, and 2017 is their first year without him since. Lincoln Riley has proven...
