UD basketball game times announced

Dayton announced its tipoff times for all games except St. Bonaventure this season. Local TV games haven’t been set yet, but a UD spokesman said Fox Sports Ohio will carry multiple games, up from just one last year.

Twenty local players on Big Ten rosters in 2017
Twenty local players on Big Ten rosters in 2017

The 14 Big Ten football head coaches and three players from each school gather in Chicago on Monday and Tuesday for media days. As usual, Dayton and the Miami Valley are well represented in the conference. Springboro grad Sean Welsh, an offensive lineman at Iowa, and Trotwood-Madison grad Mike McCray, a linebacker at Michigan, will represent their...

Sports Today: It’s beginning to look a lot like football everywhere you go

Welcome to what counts around here (and this is my column) as the official start of football season: The first day of Big Ten football media days.  The Bengals formally start the season tomorrow with a media luncheon (more on them later), and we’ve got our series of the best high school football players from many area schools going strong...
How do you hit a baseball? Just ask Siri
How do you hit a baseball? Just ask Siri

The Dragons got back on the winning track Sunday, and not surprisingly Jose Siri was in the middle of their 6-1 win over the Burlington Bees with two triples that are worth talking about. He’s still a ways away from Pete Rose territory, but that makes 29 straight games in which he’s had a hit to give him the longest hitting streak in Dayton...
Young Reds’ starters to get long look rest of season
Young Reds’ starters to get long look rest of season

Robert Stephenson knew going into his first major league start of the 2017 season on Saturday that it wouldn’t be his last. Manager Bryan Price already had promised that Stephenson, Cincinnati’s top pick and the 27th overall selection in the 2011 draft, would be part of the Reds rotation long enough for Price and the franchise’s decision-makers...
Santillan leads Dragons past Burlington
Santillan leads Dragons past Burlington

The Dragons were hoping for a better pitching performance on Sunday against the Burlington Bees after allowing 16 runs the last two nights in lopsided losses. They had good reason to hope with Tony Santillan on the mound. Santillan has been one of Dayton’s best starters this season and had another good performance in a 6-1 win over the Bees,...
