Local college football preview: Homecoming for Witt, Urbana

Miles College (2-2) at Central State (0-5)

When: 1:30 p.m. today

Where: McPherson Stadium, Wilberforce

Game notes: The Marauders gave up 70-plus points for the second straight game, losing 72-0 to No. 4 West Texas A&M last Saturday. West Texas quarterback Dustin Vaughan threw a career-high seven touchdown passes. CSU compiled 305 yards of total offense but was 6-of-20 on third-down conversions and 1-of-4 on fourth down. The Marauders also turned the ball over three times. West Texas scored touchdowns on its first six drives. … Miles College has won two in a row against Albany State and Benedict after an 0-2 start. It’s tied with Tuskegee at 2-0 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West Division. The Marauders are 0-3 in the conference.

Denison (4-1) at Wittenberg (3-1)

Where: Edwards-Maurer Field, Springfield

Game notes: It’s homecoming for Wittenberg and the first of four home games in the last six games. The 18th-ranked Tigers are tied with Wabash atop the North Coast Athletic Conference at 3-0. … Wittenberg quarterback Reed Florence ranks 14th in the nation in completion percentage (68.8). … Denison is 3-1 in the NCAC with wins over Hiram, Ohio Wesleyan and DePauw and a 50-13 loss to Wabash. The Big Red knocked off Ohio Wesleyan, which tied Wittenberg for the league title last season, 47-41 on the road on Sept. 28. Brandon Sklenar threw for 205 yards and rushed for 164 in that game.

Wilmington (0-4) at Mount Union (4-0)

Game notes: The Purple Raiders are ranked No. 1 in the D3Football.com poll and have won their last three games by at least 37 points. They rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Franklin 30-27 in their opener. … Mount Union beat Wilmington 66-0 last season. … The Quakers led 21-0 at halftime and 28-7 late in the third quarter last week but lost 35-28 to Muskingum. Brandon Arehart threw four touchdown passes, and Jeremy Duncan caught eight passes for 327 yards and three touchdowns. Duncan set a Ohio Athletic Conference record for receiving yards in a game.

Concord (4-1) at Urbana (3-2)

Game notes: The Blue Knights are 3-1 in the Mountain East Conference. Concord (3-0) is one of two unbeaten teams, along with Shepherd (4-0). … This is homecoming for Urbana, which routed West Virginia State 62-10 last week. Urbana has won 10 of its last 11 homecoming games. … Urbana quarterback D.J. Mendenhall was named MEC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time after throwing six touchdown passes last week.
