Flyers ranked 18th in final USA Today Coaches Poll

Four months after enjoying one week in the top 25, Dayton returned to the poll on Tuesday, earning one last honor for its run to the Elite Eight in March.

The Flyers, who were ranked 25th in December in the Associated Press poll after winning two of three games at the Maui Invitational, were ranked 18th in the final USA Today Coaches Poll, which came out a day after the national championship game. The AP does not release a poll after the NCAA tournament.

It’s the first time the Flyers have been ranked at the end of the season since they were 25th in 2003.

Dayton was not even receiving votes in either poll before the NCAA tournament began. By beating Ohio State, Syracuse and Stanford before losing to Florida, it finished 26-11. That’s the third-highest win total in school history, following the 1951-52 team (28-5), 1950-51 (27-5) and 2008-09 (27-8).

The No. 18 ranking is UD’s highest since it was ranked 18th on Nov. 22, 2009.
