Centerville’s Saben surpasses 1,000 career points at Flyin’

Centerville Senior Keegan Saben scored 21 points to go with five assists and surpassed 1,000 career points in a 77-66 defeat of Cleveland Heights in Day 3 of the Premier Health Flyin’ to the Hoop at Trent Arena on Sunday.

Sam Lash added 17 points and Alec Grandin hit 6 of 7 shots for 14 points as the Elks (6-4) posted their second straight win.

A 6-3 guard, Saben began his career at Alter, scoring a combined 402 points, and transferred to Centerville for his junior season. Averaging a team-high 15.0 points, he has signed with West Liberty (W.Va.).

“It’s been cool, especially to get it at Flyin’ to the Hoop,” Saben said of the scoring mark. “You go back and look at the journey, everything happens for a reason. It’s been fun.”

Yahel Hill tallied 24 points and Jaylen Harris 20 points and eight rebounds for the Tigers (5-4). Heights will play Wayne in the Scholastic Play By Play Classic at Wilmington High School on Jan. 28.
