Bullpen blows up as Reds fall to Rays; help may soon be on the way

Schebler homers, but Tim Adelman registers no decision after leaving with a 3-1 lead

Scott Schebler hit his 20th home run and drove in another run, but the Reds’ bullpen imploded Wednesday afternoon in an 8-3 loss to the Rays.

Cincinnati has dropped 11 of 12, and is in danger of slipping out of the wildcard race before midseason. The Reds left Tampa Bay in bad shape, Billy Hamilton getting caught in a rundown and being tagged out by the Rays’ leftfielder, and starting pitcher Tim Adelman complaining about the ceiling in Tropicana Field.

He went five innings, and had a 3-1 lead before the bullpen . . .

There's cause for skepticism, as the Reds will continue going young Friday, when rookie right-hander Luis Castillo will make the jump from AA Pensacola to start in Washington.

Maybe there's also hope, for Homer Bailey's odyssey is about to end, and the team has signed pitcher Jacob Heatherly, who was drafted in the third round last week.

Here’s hoping that there are no ceilings for Castillo, Bailey and Heatherly.
