Springfield High School’s boys basketball team has a pair of road games against tough opponents this weekend, and wins could launch the Wildcats into the top 10 in the Associated Press state poll.

Springfield (15-2, 8-1 GWOC National East) travels to Wayne on Friday and Columbus Northland on Saturday. Wayne (14-6, 7-3) sits in second place in the National East and needs a win to boost its tournament draw prospects. Northland (17-2) is in sole possession of first place in the Columbus City League.

Coaches have been allowed to vote for tournament seeds online since last Wednesday. A loss to Wayne could hurt Springfield’s chances at earning the top seed in the Dayton Division I sectional — if most coaches haven’t voted yet. Voting is open until noon on Saturday, and coaches will meet for the draw Sunday afternoon.

Springfield was sitting just outside the top 10 in this week's Division I state poll.

The Wildcats beat Wayne by 12 points at home on Jan. 13 and will go for a season sweep Friday, which they haven't done since the 2013-14 season.
