Bengals waive WR, made Winston signing official

The Cincinnati Bengals waived wide receiver James Wright on Monday, ending his brief, injury-plagued stint with the team.

A seventh-round pick in 2014, Wright missed the final five games of his rookie season and all of 2015 with a knee injury. He appeared in 13 games last year, but issues with the knee lingered, leading to his release.

Wright caught 18 passes for 197 yards and made 16 tackles on special teams in his two seasons.

Also Monday, the Bengals officially announced the re-signing of free agent tackle Eric Winston to a one-year contract.

He played in all 16 games last year with two starts and has appeared in 157 games with 125 starts during his 12-year NFL career, the last three of which have been in Cincinnati.

“Eric has played well for us and has been a great veteran for our team chemistry,” Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said. “We know he will give us another excellent contribution in 2017.”
