Bengals end struggling Ogbuehi’s season, promote running back

The Cincinnati Bengals placed tackle Cedric Ogbuehi on Injured Reserve on Friday and called up running back Tra Carson from the practice squad.

The move ends a tumultuous season for Ogbuehi, who showed up on the injury report Thursday as a limited participant due to a shoulder injury. The 2015 first-round pick began the year as the starting right tackle but was benched in Week 6 at New England. He worked with veteran Eric Winston on a platoon basis before being replaced by 2015 second-round pick Jake Fisher two weeks ago.

The addition of Carson will give the Bengals some depth in the backfield Sunday against Baltimore with starting running back Jeremy Hill listed as questionable with a knee injury.

Hill did not practice Wednesday or Thursday and was limited Friday.

The only other running backs on the roster are Rex Burkhead, who had a career-high 12 carries for 41 yards Saturday at Houston, and Cedric Peerman.

Carson, an undrafted rookie who played with Ogbuehi at Texas A&M, appeared in all four preseason games, leading the Bengals in rushing yards with 85.

Wide receiver A.J. Green (hamstring) is out, while linebacker Vontaze Burfict (concussion/knee) and tight end Tyler Kroft (knee/ankle) are doubtful after neither player practiced this week.
