Hanigan traded to Rays in three-team deal

The Reds announced the trade of catcher Ryan Hanigan to the Tampa Bays on Tuesday as part of a three-team deal that brings left-handed pitcher David Holmberg to the Reds from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Rays also received right-handed pitcher Heath Bell and cash from the Diamondbacks. Arizona acquired minor league pitcher Justin Choate and a player to be named from the Rays.

The move paves the way for Devin Mesoraco to become the everyday catcher for the Reds. Mesoraco, 25, hit .238 in 103 games last season, his first full season in the big leagues.

The Reds signed free-agent catcher Brayan Pena last month.
