SPRINGFIELD — Chelsea Morrow and Emily Fishbough had two hits each and Kylie Ford and Courtney Long each had doubles as third-seeded Northeastern earned its third straight Division III sectional final berth with a 2-1 win over fifth-seed Versailles on Wednesday, May 14.
The Jets (19-8) will take on Brookville or Milton-Union at 5 p.m. Friday at Northmont in a sectional final game.
In other softball action:
• Senior Emily Kauffman pitched a perfect game as unbeaten West Liberty-Salem ripped Preble Shawnee 10-0 in five innings in a D-III sectional tournament game.
• Alexis Gutierrez surrendered only six hits, but North couldn't produce any runs and fell to top-seeded Lebanon 3-0 in D-I sectional action. The Panthers finished their final season of softball with a 7-17 record.
Track
Junior Shanay Portis of South made the first day of the Wildcats' last Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division meet memorable with three wins at Springboro.
Portis took firsts in the 100 in 12.48, had a season best 25.45 in the 200 and a 16-7 in the long jump. Cassandra Lloyd also took first in the 100 hurdles in 15.29.
South's girls are in fourth place out of six teams with 56 points and North is sixth with 14.
For the boys, North senior Mario Troutman won the high jump with a leap of 6-4 and senior Richard Quick won the discus with a 139-00 for the Panthers, who are fifth with 34 points.
South freshman Josh Bass was first for the Wildcats in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 10.25 to qualify for the finals. Sophomore Alex Gaskins was second in the 300 hurdles in 41.24 for South, which is fourth with 45 points.
The top two in each event will return Friday to compete against the GWOC North and South. There are also two more events to go in the Central meet which will be completed Friday.
