BUFFALO — Stephanie Bennett never had a problem scoring throughout her basketball career.
The senior guard at the University at Buffalo has 1,000 career college points to prove it.
Extras
Bennett, a Kenton Ridge grad, became the 17th player in school history to accomplish the feat when she scored 24 points in the Bulls 73-62 victory against Ball State on Feb. 2.
For Bennett, the basket was just another two points.
"I think it's a great honor and a great accomplishment," Bennett said. "I didn't really think much of it."
The Bulls are 12-10 overall and 5-4 in the Mid-American Conference this season after going 10-19 and 5-9 last year.
"We've had our ups and our downs," Bennett said, "but it's a huge improvement from last season. We've had a lot of close games."
Bennett said she's performed well after moving from the point guard to the shooting guard position. She averages 12.8 points per game.
"I have more of a scorer's mentality this year," Bennett said.
The Bulls are hoping to make a run at MAC regular-season and tournament titles. They're competing with Ohio, Bowling Green and Miami for the top spot in the East.
"Our main goal is to win a MAC championship," Bennett said. "We're just taking it one day at a time from here on out."
Bennett's career is winding down with the Bulls, but she's left her mark all over the Buffalo record book.
She set a season record for minutes played (1,078) last year. She has played in 108 career games, and she could tie the career mark for games played (116). She ranks high on both the 3-point shooting and assists charts.
With just a few games remaining, Bennett described her experience this season as "bittersweet."
"It's exciting to play with this team," Bennett said. "It's definitely going to be tough when it's over. It's been my life for so long."
