Springfield's Cornerstone Baptist Church Worship Choir will take center stage at the Columbus Crew's soccer game tonight performing the National Anthem.
The choir will sing just before game time at 7:30 p.m. at Crew
Extras
Stadium.
It's the second year that the choir has performed for an August game, said worship pastor and choir director Tim Cary.
"It's great. It's an opportunity for us to hopefully give a good testimony for the church," Cary said. "And it's a neat chance for the choir."
It's the chance for the choir to
perform in front of thousands, — 14,000 tickets already were sold for the game — a big jump from the 200 people in the congregation on a typical Sunday at Cornerstone, Cary added.
Choir member Shirley Minogue performed at last summer's game.
"We were very happy that they called us this year and that they invited us back," she said. "That's quite an honor."
The Crew will go up against D.C. United. The game will be available on several cable and Internet outlets. To check local listings, visit www.thecrew.com.
