Browns Bell is the real deal

COMMENT: What do you think of the Browns' top pick?

By Carlos "Big C" Holmes

When the Cleveland Browns moved up to select UNLV LB Beau Bell with the team's first pick in the fourth-round of the draft, fans weren't quite sure what the team was getting.

There are mixed feelings about the pick, but for those fans who are still in the dark to the type of player Bell is, I turned to Perfect Competition, Inc. Founder and CEO Sean O'Brien to shed some light on the subject.

Extras

O'Brien spent several months with Bell, who trained at Perfect Competition leading up to the draft and knows the player well. The 6-foot-1, 245-pound linebacker went there to work on his overall football skills and worked his buns off looking to impress NFL scouts.

"Beau was brought into the program early in the draft process," O'Brien said. "He spent very little time with his family during the winter holidays and spent New Year's Day training preparing for the Senior Bowl. He's a very dedicated individual and believes in hard work."

According O'Brien, Bell did a huge amount of work over the course of time between his final game and the draft — more so than any other athlete in the program.

Things were going along just fine until Bell suffered a knee injury during Day 2 of practice at the Senior Bowl. However, that didn't stop him from making an impression on teams in Mobile.

Many had anticipated Bell going higher in the draft, but still recovering from the knee injury a month later and unable to perform at a high-level during the Scouting Combine, caused his stock to tumble a bit.

"The Browns got themselves a great player and Beau will out perform the location where he was drafted," O'Brien said. "Beau is a very powerful athlete and an imposing football player. Among the linebackers entering the draft, he was probably the most physical in that category."

Bottom line: the Browns got a steal.

O'Brien summed the linebacker up in the nutshell: "Beau is a football player that loves to play the game. He's very humble and energetic. He will make the coaching staff in Cleveland very happy."

I live in New Mexico and watch the Mountain West where he played and trust me this guy will make a great LB in Cleveland, I’m also from Enon and love the Browns. When they selected him I got very excited for the Browns.

Savage has pulled more than one rabbit from his hat, and I think he may have pulled another in Bell.

Winslow, stop whining and live up to your contract. The Browns stood behind you after contract breaking motorcycle ride, now shut up and play ball or pack it in, you are not irreplaceable.

Looking at the QB situation. This will in all actuality be DA’s sophomore year as a starter, I think by the bye week will will know what we have, unless he really blows it one way or another.

Browns have made some great off season moves. One concern I have is Winslow whining and effect in the team. Browns bent backwards for him when broke his contract rules by riding a motorcylce and injury that followed. They could have demanded his salary and bonus back, yet they did right by him. This is what Browns get in return??? I think their TE drafting was a signal they are not going to put up with his whining distractions.

What will be really interesting is to see if Savage can work some more magic and come up with a seasoned DB. I’m talking a little more seasoned than Terry Cousin. I like the thought of Ashton Youboty in a Brown’s uniform…Go Browns! Go Buckeyes!

I feel like the browns have done a great job. I feel like mcdonald is going to be very good after watching him shut down andre johnson from the texans last year. And I wish they would get jamal lewis some better help at running back jason wright is alright but look at other teams look at dallas barber & jones (felix that is) the vikings peterson & taylor jacksonville taylor and drew and alot of other teams wright is cool but it really is all about lewis.

I am excited about the changes made for 2008. I believe that the Browns will be very good and intertainung to watch. If they can avoid any serious injuries, can we say SUPER BOWL???

In Savage we Trust!!! I have been a browns fan for 20 years, and I have never been more excited for the season to start. With the additions of Rogers and Williams to toughen up the D-front, our run defense will undoubtedly move up in the rankings(not hard to do considering there is nowhere to go but up), and though Cousin is an 11 yr. veteran he will still add intangibles as well as experience for our very young DB core to learn from and play off of. Beau Bell is a DOG!! nuf said! GO BROWNS!

i’m a die hard browns fan,i loved the browns when they were in cleveland and i was pissed off when they moved the browns out of cleveland, but was so excited when they brought the browns back, and i have been there again since 1999,and i believe in what cleveland has going for them now is the playoffs,i can see at least a 12-4 record,”GO DAWGS”.

We traded some so-so players away.. and loaded on some very underrated or under the radar players…., great teams were almost never built on a string of superstars… they were stellar players playing in the right system with the right guidance that MADE them superstars….

Kardiac Kids revisted.. Savage as she goes… that sums it up… it could be 7-9 or 13-3, depending on where the balls as the up rights.. Go Browns… and I love Winslow and his dynamics… but his career will be shortened

Like any die-hard fan, I’m excited about the upcoming season! At the same time, we need to take a one game at a time approach. Our schedule is extremely tuff, so there is no way to tell what kind of record we’ll have at the end of the season. Quite frankly, I don’t give a s**t as long as we beat Pittsburgh & win the division! Go DAWGS!!!

I think Bell was a big steal atleast as far as practicality goes. Yet the ILB posistion is very strong already, I believe Leon Williams should start over Davis though. Bell will bring solid depth and situational substitutions, maybe even some spot starting. Unfortunately will still have a hole a cornerback that Rogers couldn’t plug. Unless we can pull off a trade we are thin at best at Corner. Maybe There is a possibility of Cribbs in the depth at this posistion? or safety to free up Pool for CB

Bringing in Rodgers and Williams will pay off tremendously. Those men have been on teams that were far below average and average at best. They realize (at least I know I would) that they have a legitimate shot at winning in the playoffs as well as a glimmer of hope at the Super Bowl with this team. Who cares what Winslow does. Cleveland has had enough of his high maintenance whining. Hey K-II, find a way to stay healthy enough to help your team in the playoffs (warrior) ROTFL!

The Cleveland Browns are going to be an exciting team this year … I’ve followed them for over 40 years! The anticipation of the late 80’s (the Kosar years) is back! Phil Savage has done a marvelous job in rebuilding the Browns. The drafting of Joe Thomas and the signing of Eric Steinbach has and is paying huge dividends offensively. Now … Savage has turned to the defense this year with his off-season signings of Corey Williams and Shaun Rogers. I see big things for the Browns!!!

I agree that they made a great choice in Bell, watch the highlight reel on this guy. He is a monster, I especially like the way he closes in on the ball carrier. Every play I watched of him, he was in the play, pass or run. This guy will free up the double team on Wimbley and they both will soon be picking out their guest list to Hawaii.

I’m encouraged by many of move the Browns have made during the last two years… I trust that the staff made the correct decision simply because the draft of Bell was not the most “exciting”, but possibly the most practical? I’m anticipating much better efficiency from the defense and a continued improvement fromt he offense!! Let’s hope the DA is the person he was early in the year and not later… Possibly nest year a VERY important decision will need to be made concerning the QB situation

It’s Savage as she goes. Or In Savage we trust. If Mister Savage was a gardener he’d have a green thumb; unlike the black thumb Policy and Clark had wilting up the place. I say great find! Go Browns.

Not only did the Browns get a steal in Beau Bell, they did so with all the players that they drafted this year. The scouts spent a lot of time looking at players in later rounds that they normally wouldn’t have spent much time on; therefore as the year goes on, those drafted by the Browns will show they are much better than most people think they are now!
