BASEBALL
BADIN 9, EAST CLINTON 5: Tony Cassano went 3-for-3 with three RBIs Friday, May 16, as top-seeded Badin began Division III sectional play with a victory, extending its winning streak to 15. Josh Gonya collected two RBIs for the Rams (21-6), and Eric Gerbus and Zach Toerner chipped in one apiece. Tyler Doyle, Josh McFarland and Dan Strittholt did the pitching for Badin, with Doyle getting the win and Strittholt earning the save. Chris Moore and Matt McFadden both plated two runs for the Astros (4-18). The Rams will play fourth-seeded Madison for a sectional championship at 3 p.m. today at Centerville.

CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN 12, SEVEN HILLS 2: Brian Kirschbaum went 3-for-4 with a home run and four runs scored, and also struck out seven batters in earning the mound win as the Cougars advanced to Monday's Division IV sectional championship. Other hitting leaders for CCHS included Josh Lanphier (2-for-3, two doubles, two RBIs) and Matt Fleenor (1-for-2, two runs).
SOFTBALL
HAMILTON 4, SYCAMORE 2: The 24th-seeded Aviators put up two quick runs in the first inning, but third-seeded Big Blue answered with three in the bottom of the first and never trailed again. The win moves HHS (19-6) into Monday's Division I sectional finals at the Lakota Freshman School against No. 18 Mount Notre Dame at 5:15 p.m. Rachel LeMaster went 3-for-4 and scored two runs to lead the Big Blue offense, while Haleigh Daniels went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs. Ashley Boyd earned the win on the mound with six strikeouts.
FAIRFIELD 19, WINTON WOODS 0: The Indians cruised into the Division I sectional finals as Jaisa Fox threw a no-hitter and every player in the starting lineup scored at least one run. Fairfield (21-5) was led offensively by Megan Lockhart (2-for-3, double, three RBIs, three runs), Kelsey Berryman (1-for-3, two RBIs, three runs), Fox (1-for-3, three RBIs), Lindsay Traxler (1-for-3, double, RBI), Jen Treglia (2-for-3, two RBIs, two runs), Whitney Kelly (2-for-4, two RBIs, two runs), Erin Coyle (1-for-2, double, three RBIs, three runs) and Samantha Daniels (1-for-2, three RBIs, two runs). Fox issued a one-walk in the first, then retired the next 14 batters in a row. Second-seeded Fairfield will face No. 9 St. Ursula for the sectional championship at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Kings.
LAKOTA EAST 10, AMELIA 0: Thunderhawks pitcher Hillary Ballinger threw a no-hitter and came within one borderline pitch of a perfect game Friday afternoon, leading East into Monday's Division I sectional finals. Ballinger also went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles to the lead offense, while Emily Lafferty (2-for-4), Allison Mills (2-for-3), Kristen Shearer (2-for-3), Tracy Keeton (2-for-3) and Lindsey Landers (double) also came up big at the plate. Right fielder Katie Peacock saved the no-hitter by throwing a runner out at first in the fourth inning. Ballinger finished with five strikeouts and just one walk. Fifth-seeded East will travel to Fairfield to face No. 12 Kings at 5:15 p.m. Monday for the sectional championship.
EDGEWOOD 3, SIDNEY 1: Sara Pearson tossed a no-hitter, struck out 17 batters and went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead seventh-seeded Edgewood to a Division I sectional championship against No. 5 seed Sidney on Friday. Kaysie Hall collected two RBIs for the Cougars (17-8), who will play next Saturday in the district finals.
ROSS 5, BELLBROOK 2: The Rams scored all the runs they would need in a three-run first as they advanced to today's Division II sectional final. Leading the offense for Ross were Rachael Connaughton (2-for-4, double, two runs), Kenna Sheehan (2-for-3, RBI), Kaitlyn Strunk (2-for-3, two runs) and Brittany Fernandez (1-for-3, two RBIs). Fernandez also earned the win on the mound with nine strikeouts. Top-seeded Ross will face No. 4 Monroe for the sectional championship at 11 a.m. today at Miamisburg.
MONROE 16, WILMINGTON 6: Fourth-seeded Monroe took a commanding lead by scoring nine runs in the fourth inning en route to a six-inning win over No. 5 Wilmington in the Division II sectional semifinals Friday. Tamara Davis had a home run, two RBIs and four runs scored to lead the Hornets (15-10), who will play top-seeded Ross at 11 a.m. today for the sectional championship. Lauren Turner (2-for-3, double, four RBIs, two runs) and Emily Minotto (3-for-4, RBI, three runs) also contributed in the win.
TRACK AND FIELD
EDGEWOOD BOYS WIN FAVC SCARLET TITLE: The Cougars scored 155 points to easily finish ahead of host Talawanda (100) Friday. Tobias Deardorff led the Cougars with first-place finishes in the 1,600 meters (4 minutes, 42.5 seconds) and 3,200 (10:57.7). Tyler Vanderpool also won two events, taking first in the high jump (6 feet) and long jump (20-5.5). Norwood took third with 97 points, followed by Mount Healthy (81.5), Ross (46.5) and Northwest (42). On the girls side, Mount Healthy took the title with 149 points, followed by Ross (114.5), Edgewood (88), Talawanda (73.5), Norwood (58) and Northwest (31). Talawanda's Katie Rhodenbaugh won the 1,600 (5:42) and 3,200 (12:59.5) events, while Ross' Maddie Hirsch swept the hurdles events, winning the 100s in 16.1 and the 300s in 47.7.
