The Cincinnati Christian baseball team entered the 2008 season with two consecutive Miami Valley Conference Grey Division titles, but with only four returning starters.
But suprisingly, CCS has proved this season that its grip on the division is firmer than ever.
Extras
The Cougars (13-5) have clinched a third consecutive Grey division title, and Josh Lanphier is a big reason why.
The junior catcher is batting .430 with two home runs, and will likely earn All-MVC honors for the second year in a row.
Lanphier took some time to talk with the Fairfield Echo.
Q How's the season been going so far?
A "It's been really exciting. We're starting to click at the right time. We're now getting used to playing with each other, knowing each other's territory."
Q The number of players in this program is pretty impressive for a D-IV school, isn't it?
A "Yeah. We have 15 on the varsity team; that's the most we've had in my three years. We have a JV team, which is the third year for that. I think having a JV team is essential to having a good program."
Q How long have you been playing baseball?
A "Since I was 5."
Q Have you always been at Cincinnati Christian?
A "No. I came to CCS in eighth grade. I used to go to Fellowship (Community) Christian in Colerain."
Q What do you want to do after high school? Do you want to continue to play baseball?
A "I'm not sure yet. I've been getting some letters. I really want to play baseball after college. In terms of a major, I'm not sure — maybe engineering or sports management. I'd really like to play D-I. But if that door doesn't open, I'll take whatever door the Lord opens for me."
