Urbana University football head coach resigns

URBANA — Urbana University head football coach Tim Place resigned Friday, April 4 to take the same position at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, N.C.

Associated head coach Brian Matesic was named interim coach, the school announced, and a nationwide search for a new coach has begun.

"The program is on the cusp of what could be some very great years for Urbana University and the Blue Knights football program," said Matesic, who is also the defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator. "What we're telling the kids is we're not going to change from here to the end of the spring (practices), regardless of who is here or not here."

Place spent six years with the program, the last two as head coach. He went 11-11 overall, including 6-5 last season.
