Central swimmers earn state berths

Catholic Central High School junior Pat McHugh earned an at-large provisional berth into the state swimming meet Sunday, Feb. 17, in the 50-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke and as part of Central's 200 medley relay team.
McHugh finished eighth in the 50 in Southwest District meet Friday, Feb. 15, in Oxford with a time of 21.65 seconds. He was fourth in the 100 back in 53.14.
Extras
Central's 200 relay team is returning to the state meet for the second straight year. McHugh will again team with senior Brent Hitchcock and senior Anders Samuelson. The new member of the team is freshman Patrick Greitzer.
The 200 medley relay team finished eighth in 1:39.25.
Central junior Paige Smith will also advance to the Division II state meet as a provisional qualifier in the 100 breaststroke. She finished fifth in the district in 1:10.98.
The state swimming meet will be held Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23, at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.
