Catholic Central football player Brian Wagner took an official visit with 11 other high school seniors to the University of Akron Jan. 19-21. The three-day, two-night stay provided Wagner a chance to see the campus, meet the Zips' coaching staff and talk to academic advisers.
Wagner was offered a full scholarship to attend the school as a junior.
Here's how a part of the trip progressed.
Saturday
7 p.m.: Brian and his father, Greg, checked into the Quaker Square Inn near campus. The hotel is constructed from the mills and silos of the original Quaker Oats company.
8 p.m.: Supper at an Italian restaurant with other recruits, their host players, Akron head coach J.D. Brookhart and other assistant coaches. Brookhart spoke to the crowd and thanked them for spending the weekend on campus.
9 p.m. to midnight: Wagner and his host hang out at the host's apartment, talking football and college life.
Sunday
8 a.m.: Breakfast.
9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Tour of campus that includes a trip to the student union, the recreation center, a dormitory, the Rubber Bowl (Akron's home field) and an indoor practice facility and training center.
The Rubber Bowl is off-campus. The school is building a new football stadium near the center of campus.
The practice facility and training center impressed Wagner the most.
"It's massive; you've gotta see it," he said.
1 to 3 p.m.: Meet with an academic adviser. They discussed a course of study, summer courses, eligibility requirements and graduating.
3 to 5 p.m.: Break. One of the few chances the recruits had to relax in an eventful weekend.
5 p.m.: Supper at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. After the meal, Wagner received a personal meeting with Brookhart and other coaches to talk about the 2008 season.
"It's nice to hear, and they sounded sincere. That's probably what they do with all their players," Wagner said.
Monday
Check out of hotel, head back to Springfield.
