Raiders land JUCO recruit
Tuesday, April 22, 2008
FAIRBORN — Wright State's newest basketball recruit is a 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward who "has a nose for the ball," Raiders coach Brad Brownell said. "He defends pretty well, runs the floor, rebounds. He plays with a lot of energy."
And, always important in the Brownell system, "he's a team guy."

Cory Cooperwood, a two-time All-America at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Ala., and a native of Kensett, Ark., officially signed with the Raiders on Monday, April 21, filling WSU's roster with the maximum 13 scholarship players for the first time in several years.
It also expands the WSU recruiting base to yet another state. WSU has four players each from Ohio and Indiana, with one each from Kentucky, Alabama, Texas and Arkansas and one from Canada.
"We look in areas of Ohio and Indiana first," Brownell said. "Beyond that, we'll branch out. Coach (Victor) Ebong found out about Cory, and we recruited him. If a kid agrees to go away from home, we feel we have a lot to sell."
The Raiders were 21-10 last season and 44-20 over the last two years, with back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time as a Division I program.
Cooperwood averaged 15.1 points and 8.1 rebounds last season at 32-1 Wallace State.
