About Ohio State
OSU coach Thad Matta, who spent three years at Xavier, has a 7-1 record against UD. Jamar Butler has the top free-throw percentage (.942) in the nation. Senior center Matt Terwilliger, a Troy native, is averaging 3.3 points per game in about 16 minutes of action.
About Dayton
Brian Roberts has 289 career 3-pointers, two short of the school record held by Tony Stanley (1997-2001). Roberts needs four points to pass Jim Paxson (1975-79) for fourth place on the Flyers' career scoring list.
FYI
The winner of the OSU-Dayton game will face either Virginia Tech (21-12) or Mississippi (23-10) in the NIT semifinals on April 1 in New York.
Quote, unquote
"You're talking about one of the most prestigious college basketball programs in the history of the sport, if you look at what they accomplished all the way back to Jerry Lucas and John Havlicek, Jimmy Jackson and Scoonie Penn, to the team they had last year," UD coach Brian Gregory said of OSU.

Seems some Flyers fans need to wipe their eyes. OSU has shown so far in the NIT that they deserved the #1 ranking and that they should have been chosen in the NCAA tourney. When OSU plays to it’s strenght’s, they are a very hard team to beat. UD came up against and Ohio State team that felt slighted and has shown it so far in the NIT.

As to couch burning, I’ve been a guest at a Dayton couch bar-b-que. I was going to tip the Flyers, but I go with the Bucks in Columbus.

It’s a good thing that the game is being played in Columbus. It saves UD the embaressment of having a national audience witness the mass exodus of “Flyer Faithful” at the beginning of the 4th quarter to beat the traffic.

Does anyone who posted “Hunter and Koufas will dominate Huelsman and Binnie on the inside” do any reading about the teams besides looking at the projected starters before they post stupid comments? If you had you would realize that Binnie is not an inside player and that Charles Little will likely play the inside forward position for the majority of the game. That said UD is still undersized on the inside and will need to rely on a lot of help defense and solid shooting to win. Flyers by 8.

This game pulls me in two directions. I grew up a Flyers fan in the 70’s and early 80’s. My parents still have season tickets in the 2nd row. Loved watching games against Notre Dame and beating Kelly Tripuka. Watching Roosevelt Chapman, Jim Paxson, Erv Giddings just to name a few…
But I went to tOSU and gotta go with them tonight. Go Bucks!

It’s hilarious when I read all the stupid comments by typical thug couch burning OSU fans. All I gotta say is, at least UD graduates their players! And besides, your mascot looks like a tstc*le with legs!

What a game last night with UMASS pulling it out. What a shot in the arm it would be for the A10 to get two schools to MSG and possibly both playing for the championship. In the NCAA tournament you have Xavier which I think still has a couple of wins in them. UD65 OSU58. FO FLYERS!!!!

“Why can’t we all just get along …” Seriously, with Wright, UD is terriffic. The University of Ohio State, as T. Pryor would say, has great talent and are as good as anybody when they all show up to play. That just hasn’t happened very often this year. Should be a great game. At a minimum, UD wins the ‘best mascot award’.

I’ve been waiting 20 years for this rematch — just wish I didn’t have to watch it from 500 miles away! I was there when UD beat “the mighty Buckeyes” in 86 and 87, when absolutely no one gave the Flyers a prayer…I think this game basically comes don to how well UD can negate OSU’s inside muscle and keep the game up-tempo, If OSU dictates tempo and makes it a half0court game, smaller UD will have a tough time..that said — UD 67, OSU 62!

Free throws make the game. If dayton hits in the 70% region we take it if not it goes to OSU by a few. I think there will be runs by both teams but overall a low scoring game due to Dayton’s defense. OSU has us on the inside play with a more robust center play. Huelsman will have to play a solid defensive game. We have better guard play but will that be enough….With 70% FT Dayton 67 OSU 62…without Dayton 61 OSU 73.

hey osu rubydoo, you obviously aren’t educated on the current big ten stats. How can OSU have the best defense in the big 10? Wisconsin is ranked # 1 in the NATION in defense. by the way, UD saw a far superior defense in pitt, and scored 80 points.

I believe Mich St. beat Pitt in the REAL tournamet and if I’m not mistaken didn’t OSU beat Mich St. When you beat Louisville I believe they were missing one of their star players. UD always overrate the Flyers every year. At least OSU fans will admit when their basketball team is mediocre at best.

Buckeye-is defined as an individual of an athletic team who never seems to realize who, in the words of Pedro Martinez, “who there daddy is. Gotta love Florida! Hey buckeye winers, I think its time for another school from Ohio to actually win against Florida. Your school certainly cannot. I seriously doubt OSU could have beaten Pitt, or Louisville this year, like the Flyers did. UD 71 OSU 65.

I have been a Dayton flyer fan for 40 years. Go Flyers! I have great confidence that we will come out running and keep that tempo up for the entire game. Go Jacksonville Jet!!! I love the way he keeps the tempo up, even though he gets out of control. Good Luck to the Flyers and Brian Gregory! Go UD!!!!!

The Flyer Faithful are some of the best fans in the country, and they will show up for the game. With UD wants to win we need to play defense like we did against IL St. and we need double digit performances by: Roberts Wright Johnson

This should be a heck of game! Too bad its not played at a neutral site, but thats the way it is. Home court gives OSU an advantage, but Top Flight Wright outweighs that advantage by far. The odds makers have Bucks at 8 points, but most of them aren’t offering a money line bet, because they know if the Flyers don’t get blown out they’ll win this one. Smart money plays the money line bet if you can find it. Flyers are going to the Garden!! 67-59

I’m in a pickle - one of my kids attends UD and the other attends Ohio State ! Can the game end in a tie? LOL. If Chris Wright plays up to his potential, it’s gonna be UD 74 - OSU 70 !

UD had had there time back in the 50’s. They are nothing more than a little sister to the Bucks. Anyone who believes they will win is thinking with there hearts, not with there brains. GL Flyers, but it will be a long ride home.

The arrogance of OSU basketball fans is off the chart. UD doesn’t have the pedigree of Ohio State? What is this … the flippin Westminster Dog Show? Quite frankly Big 10 schills, OSU isn’t even among the three best teams the Flyers have faced this year - Louisville, Pitt and Xavier are far better. How’d those U of L and Pitt games go for the so-called “pedigree” boys? Anyways Bucks fans, it’s just as good for you if the Flyers put you out of your misery so you avoid yet ANOTHER loss to Florida!

the facotr in this game will be Brain Roberts. If OSU plays the box and one defense , meaning they play a sort of 4 man zone and one guy shadowing Roberts the whole time. Roberts can’t beat the Buckeyes single handidly. Chris Wright will have to play alot more the 10 minutes like he did against Ill. St. for the buckeys to win. if Wright can get 15 & 10 the Flyers will win. which he will.

OSU’s defense is the best in the Big Ten. It involves a combination of full court pressure falling back into a match-up zone. I doubt Dayton has seen anything like it this year. If Dayton can’t penetrate it, they have no chance. Bucks 77 Flyers 62

Line on the game is OSU by eight-that is about what it should end up-UD could win, but it is not likely-UD’s players just don’t have the pedigree of OSU’s.

Size and free-throw shooting doom UD. Hunter and Koufas dominate Huelsman and Binnie inside. Lighty and Butler hit big shots as well as free-throws. Roberts gets his 20, Wright hits double figures, but UD’s season ends here. 76-64 Bucks

Now that Wright is back, if Dayton can get into the flow they had going when they were 13-0, OSU will be in for a tough night. OSU has home court advantage but if enough of the Flyer Faithful show up in Columbus the buzz will surely help Dayton to get back to that earlier form. Dayton is quicker and our losses were due to injuries, OSU has had the same team throughout the year.

UD’s advantage is in athleticism and speed. If they are able to keep up the tempo, they have a definite chance. If OSU is able to keep it slow, we’re done! I hope all us Flyer fans at the game get loud enough for Akron to hear us.

Maybe UD could hire Jamar Butler to teach the art of shooting the “free throw” to UD players this offseason! If UD would have made some of these, they would have beat Xavier (in Dayton) and possible been in the “big dance”

Folks, UD is going to WIN this game going away! They are mad for not making the big dance, OSU hasn’t found themselves all year, and UD is healthy. Buckeyes, bring your crying towels. Flyers, 78-61.

Koufas and Hunter are going to kill Huelsman and Binnie up front. UD will have to find the best lineup to score for this one and make it a shootout if they want a chance to win.

This game would be easy to predict if CWright did not play.Say 70-50 OSU win. After his warmup at I-State, Wright has the chance to screw things up for THE OSU. If he gets off, scores 28 plus 14 rips we’re in business. Oh, and BRob will need solid 20pts as well. Foul shots will also come into play with final score UD 73-OSU 71. GO Flyers.

I think UD will have a tough time handling Koufus and Hunter’s size. UD doesn’t present any real matchup problems for OSU. If the Buckeyes play like they did against California, it could be a long night for the Flyers.
