COLUMBUS — Ohio State's Jim Tressel is joining five other college football coaches who will visit U.S. troops in the Middle East in May.

Tressel says he's making the trip to show appreciation to American troops overseas and also out of respect for his late father who was in the Navy during World War II.

Others participating in the tour, which is sponsored by the Department of Defense, include Texas' Mack Brown, Houston Nutt of Mississippi, UCLA's Rick Neuheisel, Troy Calhoun of Air Force and former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville.

The coaches will visit the troops and coach flag football teams from May 28 to June 4 in Afghanistan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

Tressel's father, legendary Baldwin-Wallace coach Lee Tressel, was an Ohio State player when he decided to join the armed forces in 1943. He served in the South Pacific.
