COLLEGE FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Pryor still up in the air on choice

Top-rated high school quarterback may not do letter of intent on national signing day.

> Do you think OSU can get him?

Staff Writer

Monday, February 04, 2008

In a week that usually concludes the year's college football recruiting, Ohio State might not get its climax.

Terrelle Pryor, the superstar quarterback from Jeannette, Pa., said last week that he might not sign a national letter of intent on Wednesday, the first day football players are allowed to do so. The signing period lasts until April 1, and Pryor might take a final visit to Oregon to help him decide between Ohio State and Michigan (and possibly Penn State).

Extras

Pryor's isn't the only signature the Buckeyes are waiting on this week. Also undecided and desired by Ohio State are Josh Jenkins, a 6-foot-3, 282-pound offensive lineman from Vienna, W.V., seriously considering Florida State and West Virginia, and Keith Wells, a 6-5, 211-pound defensive end from Gainesville, Ga., who also has Tennessee and Notre Dame on his list.

As it stands, Ohio State has 17 verbal commitments, a relatively low number that includes Beavercreek safety Zach Domicone as the country's eighth-best recruiting class, according to Rivals.com. It is highlighted by nine players from Ohio and three of the nation's Top 11 offensive linemen.

But Pryor is the jewel. After The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported that Pryor's high school position coach said he had a gut feeling Pryor would choose Ohio State, Pryor told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that "it's about 50/50 that I'll push things back" and not sign on Wednesday's signing day.

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez, who reportedly has an offense that Pryor likes best, were scheduled to attend Pryor's basketball game Saturday night (as he's also a 2,000-point career scorer on the hardwood). Both are hoping to find out this week if the 6-6, 230-pound quarterback said to be a program-changer will join their program.

For now, no one else knows, either.

UM USED to be QB University. That was before you hired your new coach… How long has it been since WVU has had a Pro Football QB? The answer - Mark Bulger, who graduated prior to the Rich Rod era. Rich’s offense is not an NFL offense. Pat White and Rasheed Marshall are not NFL QB’s and neither is Pryor.

If Pryor is serious about being a QB in the NFL - Michigan is NOT the place he wants to go. If he does, he may get a job returning punts and maybe catching a few passes in the NFL.

Pryor will be a great college player know matter where he goes. I just hope it’s in the Big Ten. I am rooting for the Bucks though. If he is selfish, those guys passing up big money will straighten him out.

Every regular starter at the quarterback position at Michigan has gone on to an NFL career since what 1989? How many OSU QBs are there? How many have amounted to anything? Smith might be a starter for a year or two…then to the bench. Michigan is NFL QBU!!!

Hey Joey, Hopefully the NCAA goes to the Plus-1 format so that OSU, after their easy schedule and false-hope 11-1 record will lose in a BCS game and then we will get the real 4 best teams. OSU plays 1 tough game next year - at USC, will they will lose. They will run thru the Big-Ten and end up 11-1 again. So what. They play Troy ? Youngstown ? Ohio U ? Come on … was UD not available ? OSU sucks …

The PHIL FULMERS, Fredo’s and John Coopers…..If you guys(or maybe powder puffs in disguise!) are so smart like the wannabe Mark May..then you get on a uniform and get your @#$ pounded.Sounds like already Pryor is a Chad Johnson…holding out. I forsee problems with Pryor so maybe he should go elsewhere. They may be good in high school but once they get to the next level, they can’t cut it. Next thing you know, he will throw just one pass and he will be a Heisman candidate. WHAT A JOKE

Hey Fredo,

Yes, if Terrelle Pryor wants to play right away and not be an NFL QB, and play on a bad team then Michigan is the way to go and he HAS to be at a college for at least 3 years because those are the rules. If he wants to become an NFL QB and be on a team who will be in a BCS Bowl game at least 3 times in the next 5 years then he should go to OSU because the Big Ten is awful and OSU is going to dominate it again.

I think the kid will transfer to Centerville and play 1 more year of high school football. It’s time again for the Elks to dominate high school football baby ….. even if he is 19, we at Centerville can fix that little problem …. ELKS RULE !!!!

I know a kid at Pryor’s school. He is telling his friends it will be Michigan because he can start from day 1. He would have to sit at Ohio State. He wants to play right away, maybe 2 or 3 years, then on to the NFL. His best bet then is Michigan …. Plus, OSU SUCKS …..

I am a big WVU football fan. I think Pryor is a big fool if he doesn’t choose Ohio State. It will take Michigan 3 years to be a good football team and it just may be average at best.

I’m just tired of hearing about Pryor. If he comes, fine. If he doesn’t come, fine. If he comes and continues as a primmadonna and all full of himself, I’d rather he go elsewhere. Ohio State doesn’t need selfish players who use college only as a springboard to the pros. I’d much rather watch less-heralded players committed to getting an education and playing team ball rather than someone with an inflated ego who thinks he does a school a favor by going there.

So let’s see. Tennessee gets another player busted this weekend (what is that, about 5 in the last 3 weeks?) and you come in here as “phil fulmer” to talk trash? Seriously? First off, have some self-respect and capitalize your name son. Secondly, you need to realize that nationally, UT football is second fiddle to a bunch of ladies playing basketball…I wouldn’t go making any “powder puff” comments. Look at ESPN.com and see how many football stories there are, not relating to crime. PS>pf

Great point Roger D. about Dennis Dixon. I think TP is going to Ohio State. If one adds up all of the pluses and minuses, OSU is the favorite.

If he really wants to play b-ball(although I don’t know how a college player can have the time for two sports these days), Ohio State is better than UM, PSU or Oregon.

As far as the O-line protection goes, with Ohio State’s incoming O-linemen, TP will have better protection than the President of the United States. ;)

IF PRYOR GOES TO MICHIGAN, THE NEW COACH WILL RUN THE HECK OUT OF HIM LIKE HE DID PAT WHITE AT WEST VIRGINIA.NOW LRT’S FACE IT—- THE NFL DOES NOT WANT RUNNING QB’S. TOO MUCH CHANCE FOR INJURY. GO TO OHIO STATE AND SHARE PLAYING TIME WITH BOECKMAN IN YOUR FIRST YEAR. THAN USE YOUR PASSING SKILLS THE NEXT TWO YEARS AND ONLY RUN WHEN YOU HAVE TO, ALA TROY SMITH. THE NFL WOULD MUCH PREFER THAT. LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO DIXON AT OREGON THIS YEAR IN THEIR SPREAD OFFENSE.

Great comment, Coach Fulmer. Too bad Tennessee will suck enough next year to avoid any chance of that happening. If you really think the Powder Puff Girls will show up, come on up in your bright orange sissy pants and we’ll give you a powdering you won’t forget.

It’s real easy to pick and gnaw at OSU right now because we just haven’t taken care of business…but you know, we’ve BEEN to the Nat Championship Game THREE times since 01. When were YOU there last?

Hmmmm?

So shut yer piehole!!

Pryor is a great talent, but without him OSU will still have one of the best classes in the nation. If I was pryor, I would think twice (maybe 3 times) about going to Michigan. It is a program that lost all its star players, a new coach (not from Michigan), a new offensive scheme, a terrible defense and an average recruiting class. That means disaster for at least the first couple seasons. If Pryor wants to win a NT at the college level, and prepare himself for the NFL, he chooses OSU.
