DAYTON — Fighting is the easy part for Warren Roberds.
The most difficult part, the Enon native said, is waiting for his bouts to begin.
"I just want to get in and fight," Roberds said. "It's hard just watching these guys fight knowing that you're last. It's the worst part — the anticipation."
Roberds, 20, is one of more than 2,900 amateur fighters in Ohio. Last year, Ohio hosted close to 115 amateur fight cards.
His entire life, the 5-foot-11, 188-pound Roberds has trained in various martial arts. At 5, he took up tae kwon do. Later, it was boxing and then mixed martial arts.
All that led him to Mike Patt, a trainer, promoter and professional in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
In his MMA career, Roberds is 6-1. He hasn't lost a fight since August 2007.
Roberds is working toward a chance to become a professional MMA fighter in the UFC, or any other organization.
"I know it would be crazy, if I finally get there," Roberds said. "It means everything I've been training for is working for me. It's definitely what I'd like to do. I'm sure it would be amazing to be there."
