Business Insider reports a new survey of McDonald's franchisees shows that some think the company is in a "deep depression" and that the company will go under.
29 franchisees who own a total of more than 220 restaurants were surveyed.
One of them estimates that 30 percent of franchises are insolvent.
They cite frustration with the company over bloated menus and a lack of direction, saying the company is jumping from one failed initiative to another.
They say the chain is trying to be too many things to too many people and don't think it's a good strategy to try to compete with more upscale chains like Five Guys and Chipotle.
